This is Springfield's Union Station. Although it is no longer in service it still stands as strong as ever in importance in Illinois history. The station was built in 1898 costing at the time $75,000 to initially build. It faces what is now Madison Street, which used to be 3 sets of railroad tracks and was the most iconic entry point into the city. The brick work you see here was once used as a carriage way for passenger transportation within the city. The clock tower was torn down in 1946 and rebuilt in 2007. No longer a train station it now houses the Springfield Historical Society.
